Paul also uses architectural metaphors. The Christian community is “God’s building,” God’s very own “temple” (1 Cor 3:9, 16). Paul likens himself to a “wise master builder” who lays the foundation, who is none other than Jesus Christ (1 Cor 3:11). As in the “field” metaphor, so also the “temple” metaphor is corporate in scope, involving the people of God and group of workers laboring for its benefit.
