To help the laity, clergy and religious men/women develop practical and pastoral competencies on communication skills in the light of modern evangelization, Saint Paul Seminary (SPS) in partnership with the Society of Saint Paul (SSP) Philippine-Macau Province held its 2nd Comm Course: Updating Communication Formation Program last October 14-15, 2017 at the Alberione Formation Complex, SPS, Silang, Cavite.

Themed, R/EVOLUTION: Communicating Hope and Trust in Our Time, inspired from this year’s World Day of Communication anchor verse: “Fear Not, I am with you” (Isaiah 43:5) is an adherence to Pope Francis’ challenge in his address to the growing threat of misinformation, fake or alternative news, and glamorization of evil ideologies happening in the society.

Attendees included catechists from the Archdiocesan Shrine of Espiritu Santo, St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Minor Basilica of San Lorenzo Ruiz, Binondo; St. Joseph Parish, Tondo, Manila; Franciscan Youth Movement (FYM), Society of the Divine Word (SVD) missionaries, and Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing (OSB).

Courses conducted were: Creative Writing for Print and Social Media (Ms. Janyx Regalo, ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc.); Desktop and E-Publishing (Br. Albert Garong, SSP, St. Pauls Editorial); Faith Images and Gospel Videography (Cl. Keiv Aries Dimatatac, SSP, St. Pauls Audio-Visuals); Proclaiming the “Voice” (Sem. Donn Angelo Pedro, Bulacan Master Chorale) and Ministry in the Sacristy and Liturgy (Sr. Benedict Basañes, PDDM).

SPS Comm Course 2017 aimed to contribute on the search for an open and creative style of communication which Pope Francis describes as “that which never seeks to glamorize evil but instead concentrate on solutions and to inspire a positive and responsible approach on the part of its recipients and to offer the people of our times, storylines that are at heart ‘Good News’”.
