St Pauls Institute of Communication Education - SPICE, Mumbai, had held the First Convocation of Communicating Christ to Millennials (CCM), the three-week intensive summer course on media and communications for the Church Leaders, on Saturday, 27th May 2017.

Fr Renold Pascal, the Asst. Director of SPICE, gave the welcome address and had systematically presented the purpose of the summer course. Most Rev. Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas, SFX, the Secretary General of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India, was the Chief Guest and gave away the certificates to 25 participants who successfully completed the course.

“Communication is key to today’s world,” said Bishop Theodore highlighting the significance of the Social Communication Media in the life and the mission of the Church. During his address, the Bishop urged the Church leaders: the Priests, the Religious and the Laity to get united to face and to respond appropriately to the challenges paused by the media as a single ‘Catholic’ force. 

Fr Thomas M.J., the Director of Formation of the Society of St Paul (SSP), Indian Province and Fr Dominic Savio D’Silva, SSP, the Director of SPICE, Mumbai, had also attended the convocation and addressed the participants.

Fr Thomas delivering the keynote address emphasising on the mission of the SSP in the formation of the media personnel,and the SSP’s commitment to the apostolate of the social communication.     Fr D’Silva addressing the gathering said“Source and summit of every act of Christian communication is Christ Jesus, the perfect communicator.” He also urged the participants that their learnings of the communication media should bring about change in their approach to the Christian mission.

CCM was a comprehensive course covering communication, journalism, public relations and digital media, specially tailored for Priests, Seminarians, the Religious, Catechists and the Laity.
