In his homily Fr. Jeffrey referred to the Gospel just proclaimed – the episode of the meeting of Jesus with the Samaritan woman at the well. He noted that Jesus often went to the places where people gathered such as the well. This chapel affirms Jesus’ presence again where people gather, in a busy shopping area. From here the Divine Master wishes to nourish them with the cleansing waters of life and truth.

Original designs for the chapel were prepared by Jeff Poole, a senior student at the Cleveland Institute of Art. The plans were reviewed by members of the Pauline Family, especially Fr. Ulysses Navarro and Sister Graziella, PDDM, who helped to ensure its Pauline character. The tabernacle was designed by Sr Gracia, PDDM. The end result is a modern Pauline chapel that has a feeling of spaciousness belying the relatively small space it occupies.

Fr. Tony Bautista SSP, the manager of the center, expressed the hope that the chapel will be place a blessing and quiet – an oasis – in the midst of a busy commercial area. He thanked the volunteers who worked tirelessly to build the chapel and the donors who generously helped to defray the costs.

St Pauls Books and Gifts, Boardman, commenced its service on August 20 this year. It has been well received in its first three months and, with a beautiful Christmas display already in place, will hopefully be a popular destination in the lead up to Christmas, and beyond.
