Citing his favourite first two chapters of the Letter of Paul to the Galatians, Manila Archbishop Rosales elucidates this point of having St. Paul before the listening congregation, summarizing the message and life of Saint Paul in three points: First, “There is only one gospel,” he says. Whether the gospel is preached by Apollos or by Peter, by Paul or by the contemporary Paulines, there is only one gospel: Jesus Christ the Lord! Paul’s encounter with the Risen Lord in Damascus made Paul feel the love of Jesus and convinced Paul to preach the Risen Lord. Second, amidst these diversities, there are different ministries, but as the Cardinal puts it, “there is unity.” Thus we should be grateful for these various ministries and encourage these in our church, and one of these is the media apostolate that the Paulines engage in. Finally, the Archbishop (who hails from Batangas which happens to be the first mission areas of the Paulines, thus has cited in earlier part of the homily his commonality with the Paulines: the final resting place in the province capital, Lipa City) admonishes all as Paul and other Christian missionaries in the Council of Jerusalem, “not to forget the poor.” The lucrative endeavors and highly stratified targets of communication may make the Pauline apostolate “exclusivistic.” Thus the teaching of Paul must remind every Pauline: to be inclusive in carrying out the mission of evangelization through Social Communications. The poor must be in the heart of each Pauline just as Jesus Christ is.
Other highlights of the celebration was the singing of Pauline hymns by the Saint Paul University Choir, conducted by Sr. Maria Anunciata Sta. Ana, SPC, Dean of the College of Music and Performing Arts of St Paul University Manila and the singing entertainment rendered by M. Emil Quejada and Miss Cathy Leonardo during the luncheon that followed.
