Silang, Cavite - February 21 was Don Sassi’s second visit to the St. Paul Seminary in Silang, Cavite. Upon arrival, they were welcomed by a “Sinulog,” a dance for the Sto. Niño performed by the aspirants and was followed by a quick tour at the exhibit of some Pauline mementos. The afternoon activity was capped by a Eucharistic celebration in the chapel followed by a dinner with “Fiesta sa Nayon” motif. Native dishes were served in a fiesta setting, supervised by the PDDM Sisters and the kitchen staff. The community was truly refreshed by folk music, food, conversation, and laughter in a family atmosphere. Fr. Sassi thanked the community for their exuberant welcome. He felt both joy and encouragement before a community composed mainly of young people.

San Fernando, Pampanga - In the meeting with the whole Novitiate community ( Fr. Timoteo Melizza, (Local Superior and interpreter), Fr. Luke Quitalig  (Member), Fr. Dominador Castro (Member), Bro. Roque Ocampo (Member), Fr. Jose Aripio (Provincial Superior and former Novice Master), Fr.  Domie Guzman Jr (Visitor), Bro Hansel Mapayo (Visitor) and Novices Brian Tayag, Vicente Rey Doron and Lawrence De Peralta, Don Silvio Sassi emphasized that the novitiate is a period when the formands start to figure out their identity in the congregation, thus they not only study the congregation’s constitution and Pauline Spirituality but also have to be active in their apostolate and begin to think about their place in the mission of the congregation. The whole community as a whole was also exhorted to be united in their undertakings and community project. Given the chance to speak, the novices shared about how they are able to cope with the new schedule of Pauline life that prepares them for their professed life. They commonly shared that the gradual introduction of the Pauline Life and Spirituality in their earlier aspirancy and in the informal gathering they have had made them easily adapt to their present formative year.

The General Superior, presiding over the closing liturgy that capped the encounter emphasized the fourth vow of the Paulines: Fidelity to the Roman Pontiff in matters of the apostolate. Celebrating the liturgy of the Feast of the Chair of Peter, Fr. Sassi explained that our fourth vow is not only in obedience to the Pope in matters of faith and dogma as this is already demanded of every Christian, but more so in the media apostolate, being attuned to the teachings of the Pope, propagating the apostolate of the new means and being updated in all the teachings of the Church on Media Evangelization. It has always been a tradition that the Paulines all over the world read the document and celebrate the day that the Pope declares as World Day of Social Communications.
