That Friday, September 14, in one of the function rooms, new ST PAULS books were launched as a group in this fair of “Words without Borders.” The Audio Visual Presentation (AVP)-filled program did not just include the inspiring messages of the writers, Msgr. Antero Sarmiento, PH, MA; Msgr. Sabino Vengco, Jr;  Fr. Jose Francisco Syquia; Fr. Fernando Guillen, Sch P., Ms. Mari Agnes Yap-Marcon, Mr. Ed Villacorte, Ms. Rita Avila, Bro. Jess Matias, SFO and Ms. Mary Conception Matias, whether personal or digital, but also the song numbers and the giving of San Pedro Calungsod Award to Msgr. Sabino Vengco for his continued collaboration with ST PAULS in our print and digital apostolate. The award was given by ST PAULS Creative Director Fr. Dominador G. Guzman, Jr, SSP after his opening remarks.

Saturday was a long, nevertheless exciting day for the Battle of the Champions, (ten) 10 St Paul National Bible Quiz Regional Champions and Wildcards. Competing for the monetary prize as well as prestige, they started their quest with the Bible Enthronement led by the Rivers of Living Water Dancers and the St. Paul Seminary Choir, then with  the Five (5) Round Contests of General Information on the Bible, Old Testament, Deutero-canonicals, Gospels and Acts of the Apostles, Letters and Revelation, capped by the Celebration of the Eucharist presided by the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Metro Manila who is aptly a bible scholar, Bishop Broderick Pabillo, DD. Interspersed in the event were intermission numbers of St Paul Seminary Dance Group, and celebrities led by Ms. Ai-ai de las Alas that enlivened the audience.

As second time grand champion, St. Mary’s Girlstown-Cebu  (Central Visayas and Northern Mindanao Regional Champion) romped away with P50,000 cash prize with additional P15,000 cash prizes for being best in three categories (Best in Old Testament, The Gospels and The Acts of the Apostles, Letters and Revelations).

The First Runner Up-Champion was University of the Immaculate Conception, Davao City (Southern Mindanao Regional Champion). They won P20,000 plus another P5,000 for being Best in General Information on the Bible.

The Second Runner UP Champion was St. Mary Girlstown-Cavite (Southern Luzon Regional Champion) won P10,000 and another P5,000 for besting others in Deutero-canonicals. The top three winners also received the San Pedro Calungsod Awards, St Paul Bible Quiz trophies, medals and other gift items from sponsors and donors. All the (ten) 10 champions and wildcards received a plaque of distinction as Regional Champions and individual Certificates of Participation.
