T he conviction that inspires all my report is that we cannot understand the Institutes aggregated to the Society of Saint Paul without placing their identity in the permanent plan of blessed James Alberione, a plan that tends to guarantee the unity in the diversities of all the foundations that in succession constitute the Pauline Family. At the end of 1953, in view of the fortieth of foundation of the Society of Saint Paul, Fr. Alberione writes: “From 1904 until 1944 there was always a certain internal travail due to the fundamental problem: how to maintain the unity of spirit and at the same time the independence of administration and direction in the Pauline Family” (Abundantes divitiæ gratiæ suæ [=AD] 131). When he writes this the Congregations that have been founded are: Society of Saint Paul (1914), Daughters of Saint Paul (1915), Pious Disciples of the Divine Master (1924) and the Sisters of Jesus Good Shepherd (1938). |
